Is it Christmas Yet?

I just went to Barnes & Noble to buy gifts. Because books are the best gifts. THE. BEST.

To prove it, I made this Christmas tree.

(Also because I’m an English teacher, and this is my classroom. I also have snowflakes hanging from the ceiling that are made out of poetry.)

What Are You Doing New Year’s Eve? Pt. V

Last day of New Year’s plans! This is for the majority of us (possibly including myself), who will ring in the new year in front of our television, watching New Year’s Rockin’ Eve in our pajamas. After the ball drops and the New Year kisses are over, we’ll crawl into our beds and go to sleep.

Comfy NYE pajamas deserve soft and cozy slippers. And if you’re home for the holiday, might as well wear some sparkling paper accessories–put your 2013 tiara on, blow your noisemakers, light up your sparklers. The Kate Spade bangle is a really fantastic piece for the year ahead. On the inside, the bangle says “This is the year to”, and around the outside, it says: “be a firecracker”, “take a road trip”, “dance til dawn”, “wear red”, master the bow tie”, “embrace color”. Good reminders all.

What Are You Doing New Year’s Eve? Pt. IV

On our fourth New Year’s Eve ensemble! Now this one is more relevant to parties I’ve been to in the past. Jeans, boots, and a kimono top are perfect for a casual house party. The kimono gives a bohemian feel to the outfit (without having to resort to tie-dye), so the jewelry should be, as well. I have picked some pieces that are evocative of the East in Medieval times. Embellished rings, tasseled necklaces, and a cool, casual look.

What Are You Doing New Year’s Eve? Pt. III

I’m obsessed with velvet during the winter season. Velvet handbags, velvet jackets, velvet shoes. So this velvet Rachel Zoe suit spoke to me. What a fantastic, retro look for a party! And to go with it, bold, simple shapes and a ’70’s aesthetic. The suit deserves cuffs and collars–a wide, metallic cuff on one wrist, and a wide, metallic collar necklace. Or, for variation, a very disco pair–a mesh necklace and a disco ball cuff. Plus purple booties. Of course.

What Are You Doing New Year’s Eve? Part II

Bedeck loves a holiday. (Well, Freya, who writes Bedeck, loves a holiday. Quibbles.) But it’s been a while since I had a great New Year’s Eve. I would love to go to a great party this year. Hopefully someone is going to (or throwing!) a great party. If so, here’s an idea for you: a jewel-toned bandage dress, with some sparkles to go with it.

For this ombre’ jewel-toned dress, a pair of satin pumps in a shade of purple would be flattering. A chain and sparkle bracelet, with a dangly pair of chain earrings will add a bit of movement and glitz. With a gorgeous neckline like this one, all you need is decolletage.

What Are You Doing New Year’s Eve? Part I

We just finished our Twelve Days of Christmas, filled with awesome gifts for everyone (at least everyone who is an adult). Now let’s get back to the important things: buying cool stuff for ourselves. Yes? Yes.

The next opportunity for a major dress-up moment is New Year’s Eve. Do you have your party lined up? I totally don’t. But who knows? Whatever your occasion, we have your accessories.

Let’s start with the major sparkle: a sequin mini-dress. This is almost an accessory on its own, so you don’t need much. A bold cocktail ring is the only jewelry you need. And to show off your fantastic legs, a pair of silver heels so high you could get vertigo. That should do it.

Twelve Drummers Drumming

We’ve reached the twelfth and last day of Christmas! At least according to the song. And one of the most awesome gifts has now been given. The drummers show up, and it becomes a party.

You know it’s true.

On this ultimate day of the twelve days of gift-giving, I present gifts for your music lovers and your rock ‘n’ roll stars.

The one thing women don’t want to find in their stockings on Christmas morning is their husband.” ~Joan Rivers

Eleven Pipers Piping

Two days AFTER the ladies dancing, the music shows up? Bad timing, True Love. Maybe he should have thought through the whole gift giving rota beforehand. And then to add pipers to a whole bevy of birds? Might be a bit of a cacophony.

I humbly submit a much quieter option–accessories with contrasting piping on them. So adorbs.

Eleventh Day of Christmas

Charlotte Russe high heels / Lucky Brand wedge / GUESS shoes / Big Buddha / Big Buddha color block handbag / Reed Krakoff leather tote handbag / See through umbrella / Ted Baker / Leather glove / Wool beanie hat / Brooks Brothers grosgrain belt

“Be merry all, be merry all,
With holly dress the festive hall;
Prepare the song, the feast, the ball,
To welcome merry Christmas.”
~William Robert Spencer

Ten Lords A-Leaping

“Hey, hon? Merry Christmas. Here are ten other dudes.”

Either the True Love was pretty secure in his relationship (after all, he did BUY ALL THE BIRDS), or he made some assumptions about the fact that the lords liked leaping.

If the lordly gentleman in your life is a husband, father, brother, boyfriend, gay boyfriend, or even a Time Lord (“bow ties are cool”), then there’s something for him today. Get your man shopping on. (Oh, and the Sonic Screwdriver is a working TV remote. And I want it for myself.)

Tenth Day of Christmas

“May the spirit of Christmas bring you peace,
The gladness of Christmas give you hope,
The warmth of Christmas grant you love.”

Nine Ladies Dancing

I personally think this is one of the more magical gifts. Imagine opening your door to find a troupe of dancers there, just to perform for you. If you can’t get a bunch of ballerinas, the next best thing is a whole ton of ballet flats, like these.

The Ninth Day of Christmas

J.Crew glitter ballet flat / Brooks Brothers leather flat / J.Crew suede wedge / Steve Madden pointy flat / Alfani cap toe flat / Lucky Brand ballerina flat / ASOS ankle strap ballet flat / Ballerina flat shoes / Old Navy skimmers shoes

“Roses are reddish
Violets are bluish
If it weren’t for Christmas
We’d all be Jewish.”
~Benny Hill
